Job Profile

For over a century and a half, the iconic ships of Cunard have been defining sophisticated ocean travel.  Representing The Most Famous Ocean Liners in the World™, Cunard's fleet of Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth carries guests across the great oceans and far points of the globe in unparalleled style.

Following Queen Elizabeth's successful inaugural home port season in Australia, she will be returning to our waters for a record 101 days this year.  This is a vote of confidence in Australia and New Zealand, which is now the third largest sourcing market for Cunard worldwide.

Cunard has created a new role to drive the famous line's public relations activity in this region.  Reporting to the Vice President Corporate Affairs- Carnival Australia, the successful person will work side-by-side with Cunard's Australian-based Commercial Director, our internal events team as well as an external public relations agency to develop and manage a communications strategy that aligns with commercial objectives.

This role is a permanent part-time position that is ideal for someone who values flexibility.  Given the seasonal nature of the ships' deployment and related events and activity, the role requires someone who can meet peaks-and-troughs in workload over a full year.  This may mean working several days a week in peak season but reducing hours at other times.

In return we too offer flexibility with the ability to work from home and hoc hours as the role permits.

We seek applications from people with 8+ years' experience in a senior capacity combining experience in public relations, media (traditional and social) and public affairs, ideally in travel or leisure. Essential to success will be:

  • an understanding of the changing media landscape and the ability to interpret the potential impact on the business
  • large doses of creativity and experience developing public relations strategies that deliver mass market/consumer media interest
  • strong analysis and problem solving skills; demonstrated ability to manage detailed and sometimes complex issues in short timeframes
  • outstanding writing skills, across a range of formats and audiences
  • high interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams to deliver end results.  This will involve working remotely with Cunard's global public relations leads in the UK and North America.
  • self-organisation and planning skills; resilience and the ability to work under pressure
  • an ability to work flexibility through the peaks and troughs and travel (mostly domestic including ship familiarisations with media) as required

Please refer to the attached Job Profile for further information.

At Carnival Australia we pride ourselves on promoting an inclusive and flexible workplace culture where individual differences are valued. We are committed to working with people's strengths and encourage applicants to approach us for any necessary adjustments.
