Job Profile

An exciting contract role has opened up to help execute the public relations strategy for P&O Cruises - Australia's modern cruise brand. 

It's an exciting time to join P&O Cruises with the brand investing in refreshing its fleet. The newest addition is a spectacular Grand Class ship, Pacific Adventure, arriving in 2020, with another ship scheduled in 2021! 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Public Relations P&O Cruises, and working closely with colleagues in several teams including Marketing, Social Media, Events, Corporate Affairs and Operations, the successful candidate will support day-to-day consumer and trade media relations activity by helping to create and roll out a consistent stream of positive public relations activities. 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • build relationships across the P&O Cruises business to help stay on top of story-worthy happenings as they unfold
  • draft and distribute press releases for consumer lifestyle, travel and trade media
  • build and nurture relationships with travel and trade media; act as the day-to-day point of contact
  • work with our PR agency in brainstorming and pitching ideas
  • work with P&O Cruises Social Media Manager to translate trade stories for social media
  • maintain up-to-date support tools (such as media fact sheets and image library)
  • provide support for events, media famils and social media campaigns

We're keen to hear from people with 2+ years' experience in public relations or journalism who bring:

  • journalistic ability, with a strong gauge on what's newsworthy
  • strong writing skills, including high attention to detail and experience writing article length pieces
  • excellent interpersonal, networking, relationship building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • a team centric, positive and proactive attitude to work
  • resourcefulness, the ability to self-manage workload and resilience to get through peak business times
  • Tertiary qualifications in Media Communications (highly desirable)

This position will involve some outside of office hours work and travel – including onboard. A passport is essential.
